The Wiz (1978)

Nominated for the Academy Award art direction/set decoration, cinematography, costume design, and music. A version of The Wizard of Oz but with an Afro-American adaptation. They dub it "The Wizard of Oz with an urban flavor" and if you really think about it, the only problem with the original film classic is that it is painfully lacking urban flavor. But it’s a nice retelling of the story with beautiful musical numbers and incredible sets. And Michael Jackson as the scarecrow? Oh, my god. (Written by Joel Schumacher)
